Selective Service

While both men and women over eighteen can volunteer for the armed forces, when young men turn eighteen, they are required to register for the draft.

It’s called Selective Service Registration.

This is the process by which the government collects names of men 18 to 25 to use in case a national emergency requires rapid expansion of the armed forces.
