TRAFFIC REPORT: Who is in the HOV Lane?

Are you stuck in traffic or cruising past the competition? Five states have already joined New Jersey in the fast lane to deliver critical messages to adolescents about their future. New York City, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Rochester led the way for the 137 cities in New York that visited LearnDoEarn. Pennsylvania came in third boasting visitors from 127 cities such as Philadelphia, Dresher, and Troy, and Massachusetts drew traffic from Newtonville and Newton as well as 27 other cities. We welcomed Georgia and California into the HOV lane with their front seat cities of Marietta and Atlanta in GA, and San Francisco and San Jose in CA respectively.

More and more cities and states are picking up on this strategic, scalable tool for delivering messages about the needs their community and businesses will have of middle level and high school students when they enter the workforce in the future.

ARE WE THERE YET? LearnDoEarn Scavenger Hunt Better Than Playing Alphabet

The LearnDoEarn Scavenger Hunt is a simple, quick, interactive and fun way to get students in middle and high school to become instantly familiar with key concepts from LearnDoEarn: data-driven messages that will help them make the best possible academic, behavioral, career and financial decisions.

The primary goal of the Scavenger Hunt is to get the LearnDoEarn message to students as quickly as possible. It's simple. Schools post the LearnDoEarn posters in strategic places around the building. Students are given a LearnDoEarn Scavenger Hunt Answer Sheet and have one week to 'scavenge' the answers using information from the posters and from the LearnDoEarn website. Winning students are awarded prizes that can be provided by local businesses or purchased as part of the Scavenger Hunt Kit. Prizes in the Kit include one iPod Shuffle for the 1st place winner, and three $15 store gift cards for the remaining winners.

DRIVE THROUGH: LearnDoEarn “To Go”

Recognizing that schools and communities vary widely in their acquisition and use of technology, LearnDoEarn has packaged the program in a school-friendly kit that includes all the materials needed to easily deploy, including the LearnDoEarn Scavenger Hunt. LearnDoEarn in a Box is for schools that have minimal Internet access, or for educators who don’t have the time to download and print all the FREE materials from the website.

This option affords strategic, consistent implementation of LearnDoEarn across an entire school or school system. LearnDoEarn “To Go” is also a great opportunity for communities and local businesses to obtain a robust basic version of this great package at a great value -- a sizable return on your investment. So whether your students and teachers are driving a Cadillac or an old jalopy, LearnDoEarn in a Box provides the option to retrofit LearnDoEarn into your ride.

HIGH BEAMS: The Technology Challenge is Drivers Ed for Computer Skills

The Technology Challenge, the online performance assessment in common computer software applications, is now helping schools meet federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation for technology proficiency. While all schools are required to report end-of-eighth-grade student technology literacy data to state departments of education, LearnDoEarn was one of the first to provide objective assessments through the Technology Challenge. Each state department of education sets the standards for technological proficiency for NCLB reporting and the Technology Challenge is creating Challenges to meet those standards.

In New Jersey, for example, the Technology Challenge recently released a new Challenge that thoroughly addresses the standards in the New Jersey Technology Assessment for Proficiency Integration (NJTAP-IN). States interested in similar Challenges can contact Donna Custard at 609-989-7888 for more information.

In addition, Challenges can be used for pre-test/post-test assessments or for placement testing as well as instructional curriculum. Because annual subscriptions provide unlimited access throughout the year for students and faculty, students and teachers can learn the material and hone their skills both at home and at school.

In fact, some businesses have used the Technology Challenge as a hiring tool when screening applicants for positions that require the use of common software applications.

At just $1.00 per student for unlimited school access, LearnDoEarn has priced the Technology Challenge to be the most cost effective way for schools to meet the NCLB mandate and for communities and parents to be assured their students are prepared for their future in an increasingly digital world.
