TRAFFIC REPORT: LearnDoEarn in the Fast Lane! You may have heard about the LearnDoEarn National Student Credentialing System from an educator, a public official, or maybe you’ve seen one of Dana Egreczky’s famous presentations introducing you to this exciting suite of essential credentials: World Class Students, School Counts, The Technology Challenge, Work the Money, and The Math Challenge. If you haven’t visited the site yet, we invite you to join an ever-expanding number of students, teachers, parents and business leaders who are visiting LearnDoEarn.org to see what the buzz is all about. Students are downloading presentations, listening to webinars, going on Virtual Field Trips, and taking online assessments to find out if they have what it takes to succeed in college, work and life after high school. The national website, launched in December 2006 is gaining momentum. Traffic on the site spiked over the summer as educators learned about this unprecedented opportunity to expose students to the realities of the ‘real world’ and motivate their performance. We anticipate the trend will continue to grow exponentially as teachers and students return to school across the country.
What are they finding?
If we want to drive student achievement, we need to steer them toward information that will motivate them to work harder, be on time, and learn why they need to learn what teachers are teaching. LearnDoEarn can help! Join us for Drivers’ Training classes – we’ll show you all the public features available on the LearnDoEarn website and how to use them. We’ll show you our LearnDoEarn modules and activities. And we’ll also show you the resources behind the password-protected Faculty Room and what’s available in the Central Office.
Help students learn which way to turn with our Virtual Job Shadowing. Using webinar technologies (Internet-assisted teleconferences), students can hear and speak with adults in jobs in today’s workforce and learn about careers that might interest them. This fall, we are featuring a police officer, corporate contributions manager, corporate communications manager and computer gamer. And more are coming in 2008. We’ve also scheduled a special series of speakers for National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October featuring adults who have overcome great challenges but who still get up and get to work every day. Among others: an attorney with spinal cord damage, a top-notch lobbyist with a degree from Harvard who has been blind since the age of two, and an accountant with neurological challenges. All of which will help students – general education and special needs – understand that they, too, can overcome any obstacle if they work hard. Students will also learn that the workplace is a highly diverse place where they will have to work with many different kinds of individuals. Check out our webinar schedule here.
High School Senior: “LearnDoEarn made me put things together. I decided that in order to get where I wanted to in international economics, and to distinguish myself in applying for college, I would have to take those courses [outlined in the World Class Students sequence]. The things they stressed to us really helped me get my job as a bank teller. My attendance and grades showed I was responsible and able to work hard. Usually, they don’t hire 16-year-olds.”
